The Holy Trinity

Mosaic above the entrance of church

Making a mosaic is an art that requires skill, patience, and dedication. I have always been fascinated by the ability of this art form to capture the essence of a subject and convey it in a unique and captivating way.
In this blog post, I would like to share with you my process of creating a mosaic of the Holy Trinity (The Hospitality of Abraham) and also provide a theological explanation of the Icon of Hospitality of Abraham from the Orthodox Church’s point of view.

One of my first steps in creating this mosaic  was selecting the materials I would use. I carefully chose materials that would complement the original artwork of the Holy Trinity by Andrei Rublev while still allowing me to add my own personal touch.

For this mosaic of the Holy Trinity, I chose to work with smalti, a colored glass that is highly durable and adds vibrancy to the piece. To create a beautiful background, I opted for mosaic gold which gives eye-catching finish

Once I have selected the colors that I want to use, I carefully cut each tesserae to the desired size and shape.
The most effective method for cutting tesserae was by hand, using mosaic nippers. However, for larger pieces of smalti or stone, I relied on a mosaic chopping machine for the best results.
